Saturday and Sunday, June 29 and 30, from 10 a.m. to noon, Idaho State University’s Department of Physics will big their Water Rocket Festival astatine Tydeman Park, N. 8th Avenue and E. Young Street. Each day, nan first 100 youths ages 16-years-old and younger will person nan materials needed to build a h2o rocket. From there, ISU students will explicate nan physics of a bully rocket and thief nan young h2o rocket scientists create and motorboat their projectiles. The builder whose rocket travels nan furthest will triumph their ain h2o rocket launcher.

“This will beryllium a awesome opportunity to see immoderate STEM successful your summertime and to study a small physics,” said Steve Shropshire, professor of physics astatine Idaho State University and organizer of nan Water Rocket Festival. “It will beryllium a batch of nosy for nan full family.”

Last year’s winning rocket traveled 114 meters (374 feet).

The Water Rocket Festival is being held successful conjunction pinch nan Kiwanis Club of Pocatello’s 56th Annual Bing Hong Pancake Breakfast fundraiser. The first Water Rocket Festival was held successful 2011.
